Work of Vocations - Second Collection, April 26
A Message from Archbishop Smith
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I invite you to support the Work of Vocations Second Collection, which helps fund the formation and education of seminarians preparing for priesthood.
In the Gospel for today, the Fourth Sunday of Easter, Jesus describes himself as the “Good Shepherd” – a shepherd who knows his sheep and provides them with eternal life. It is for this reason that today is typically referred to as Good Shepherd Sunday.
Our priests are called to emulate Jesus in this way. In their ministry, they lead the faithful to eternal life through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, providing access to the sacraments, and walking with us through life’s special and difficult moments.
However, a seminarian does not become a priest on his own. Men who discern the priesthood need support, accompaniment, and resources to help them listen to the voice of God. This radical commitment can only be made and strengthened through rigorous formation and education.
Your prayerful contributions to this second collection help ensure that our seminarians are well formed, and that more men will also say “yes” to discerning the priesthood.
Thank you for your generosity and ongoing prayers for our seminarians.
Yours sincerely in Christ,
✠ Richard W. Smith
Archbishop of Vancouver
